4 Key Steps
-

Civil vs Symbolic
The first and most important step to planning your wedding or elopement is deciding if you are having a civil ceremony or a symbolic ceremony.
-

Setting a budget
Unless you have an unlimited budget, it is wise to give yourself a budget fitting for event and your desired destination.
-

Wants vs Needs
Prioritizing what’s most important on your wedding day will make it easier to stay on budget and eliminate anything that is not a necessity.
-

Plan for you!
Many couples get caught up in comparing their wedding plans to others or trying to please everyone on their day. You are the priority. It’s your day!

The Venue
Finding the perfect venue can be overwhelming, particularly when doing so from another country.
We recommend checking out the website Wedinspire which has created the filter system to narrow down your search based on your needs.
Another alternative is to rent an Airbnb! The photo above is from a client of mine who rented this chateau in the south of France for her wedding. Opting for an Airbnb allows you to also use the venue as accommodation and saves many couples thousands of dollars in the process.
Finding Vendors

What to avoid?
As someone who lives in both the US and Europe, I highly recommend vetting every person you hire. There are a lot of people taking advantage of those booking destination weddings and it’s important to know that the person you’re hiring is legit.
Ask if it is possible to pay with a card rather than to wire money. This adds an extra layer of protection if something goes wrong. Wire transfers rarely give the protection from fraud and do not allow chargebacks.
Also, request to see a full website with reviews rather than just a social media page.
